I have heard from a lot of people that Boston is apparently racist, while some tell me that it is a great city. So does anyone know for sure?

Go back about 30 years to find the racism. It’s called “forced busing,” notably in Charlestown, which was then (and still somewhat is) working class Irish.

Not the same city now.

from my experience boston isn’t racist at all. bu actually has very few african americans compared to what i’d expected, but lots of indian, asian, jewish, etc. students. everyone in my knowledge is very accepting and there are lots of opportunities at bu for people to get immersed in their cultural, ethnic, & religious backgrounds. visit and see what you think.

It’s dirty.

Not any dirtier than any other city. Loads of great ethnic restaurants, tons of things to do. Most people love it.

Thanks a lot, that really helps.

Not overtly racist, but kind of segregated. Diverse, international. Young.
Great walking city, historic and beautiful.
Lousy weather from November-April.
Nice size, not overwhelming like NYC.

im from boston, and truly believe it is an awesome city because theres so much to do. there are tons of historical sites from colonial times to see, as well as tons of shopping. Boston at its best can be seen on the day of a parade. the subways are jammed and the city is flooded with people. although i want to go out of state to college, i know for a fact that i want to live near Boston when I settle down because I know how fun it is to grow up here.

Boston is awesome. I’ve lived here since the 3rd grade, and now most of the colleges i applied to are in or near Boston/ MA. Boston is very diverse and has many many different sections. The part that BU is in is very urban and has a lot of cars going through. It’s easy to get around, but there aren’t as many people as in NYC or maybe even Phily. Like most other cities, there are poor areas and rich areas; white areas asian areas or black areas, but as a whole, it’s as good as it gets

Thank you to everyone for all of this help I really appreciate it. I hope you all get accepeted into Boston University and if you already have been congratulations. If are currently attending, GREAT!, I hope you are enjoying Boston University and from the way you guys described it sounds like you do if you go there.

Boston’s the best city to live in! Second after NYC of course, but I love it, except for the cold weather…around winter is the time I wish I lived in the south/possibly CA…If you like city and noise 24/7, you’ll love Boston!

Excellent superwoman! EXCELLENT! Cold brrr, lol people have told me about that. I am glad you like it so much! Thanks for answering.

yep, no problem! There’s always something CHEAP you can find to do around here lol. G-luck! :)

p.s. hope you’ll soon become a bostonian! :)

Awesome! Thanks I really appreciate that =).

P.S. I hope you have a great day =)

Thanks! :)

I love Boston… BU is so diverse… from what I’ve seen the many times that I visited the school - there’s a great community. I mean the majority of it is white - but out of 4,000 undergrad freshman, there are plenty of other backgrounded people.

Since I’ve been born, I’ve lived about 20 min (on a non-traffic good day) from Boston. I’ve been there countless times, and still love visiting each time. It’s always bubbling with things to do while maintaining a perfect size. Of course, it does have many different parts as chaochao said, but it’s really pretty overall. It has a classic vibe around it too. Plus, it hosts the best sports teams ever especially the Boston Red Sox…

I think you’ll love it.

Everyone I really appreciate your posts. =)
