How is Brown's English department?

Same as the above. Haven’t heard much about it, so was wondering how it compares to the rest of the Ivy’s, and on its own?

Is it good?

Perhaps I should put my question about the relationship between the English Department and the Literary Arts Program here, too. How do these two entities relate to one another? Any tensions? Any advice about navigating successfully?

Bump bumpp

I haven’t taken classes in either department (though I really hope to take the Advanced Translation Lit arts course in the spring), but here’s what I’ve found that might be helpful:

This was the article I had in mind when I first read these questions, but I just found it now: [Corporation to decide on creation of lit arts dept. - The Brown Daily Herald - Serving the community daily since 1891](http://www.browndailyherald.com/corporation-to-decide-on-creation-of-lit-arts-dept-1.2508846)
It seems to suggest there’s some tension (as much as there would be among academics who have fundamentally different approaches to the same topic).

Although I don’t know about English, I have heard from several people that Literary Arts is somewhat looked down upon, since the requirements are both few and unrestrictive. It’s very easy to add it on top of another concentration, even an Sc.B (in fact, I know several Sc.B.s who are concentrating in Literary Arts for fun). My sophomore year roommate is an English concentrator, and, if nothing else, those requirements seem more thorough and intensive.
