How is cheating reported on transcript?

Hey. I'm a Junior in high school.

I got caught cheating today on test by using a little slip of paper with 5 spanish conjugations on it. I had not even started the test (wasn't even open) and the paper fell of my and onto the ground. I know it is a really stupid way to get caught and even a stupider idea to cheat. However, I did get reported for academic dishonesty. My school changed it's honor code this year after some kids complained about people in the top ten cheating (not me- i'm #29). Part of this new code is that ANY reported findings of academic dishonesty WILL get reported on the college transcript.

What I am wondering is how it will be reported and what exactly will it say. Also, how will this affect my admissions into college. I know that whatever college I apply to, they have no reason to pick someone who cheated over someone who did not.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I highly doubt it would hurt your chances for admissions. Don’t worry about it. I’m not sure how that would be reported, but that seems like a fairly harsh policy- usually you would just get a zero for the quiz. Asking your counselor or your teacher about it would be your best bet, though.

I think that if it’s actually formally reported on a high school transcript under discipline or something as you having been caught cheating, it will - regardless of what schools you’re applying to (save for community college) - hurt you. There’s no way colleges will be able to just ignore the fact that you’re guilty of academic dishonesty, since this is SUCH an important issue in the world of academia right now. However, while it will definitely hurt you, the question is how much - which may vary from institution to institution. For instance, if you were to apply to one of the ivies, then chances are it will hurt you a great deal, and yes, you could lose admission (though nothing is definite). If you’re applying to a lower tier school, it may hurt you very little.

If it is reported, it will definitely hurt you. Just ask your school to make sure.

I doubt that it will hurt you as the policy to put it on your college transcript was made after you cheated, so it shouldn’t affect you.

If it gets reported - it will effect you. Regardless. Like someone else said, the degree varies - but cheating is enough to lose you admission at a school.

Reports of cheating, even minor, isolated incidences, prompt college admissions officers to question the validity of any or ALL of your grades - so it is quite a serious reprimand, much more so than even skipping class/truancy.
