How is civil engineering like?

it sounds the most interesting out of all the engineering majors, to me.just want to know what it's all about. :)

thanks in advance!

Check this out!=)

Civil engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It has a loot of information.

There's something else for you to read.

If you have any specific questions, I'm sure there are plenty of people here to answer them.

It seems like an alternative to architecture. I wonder what the pure differences between them are though. I am just surprised that architecture is considered harder than civil engineering. But I think it's the stress of work and finding jobs. Anyway, civil engineering and architecture seems to meet for some reason just cause they both deal with designing, I guess engineering is geared more to making efficient products.

Basic difference is that the architect's primary concern is making the building aesthetically pleasing and the civil engineer (more specifically, the structural engineer) has to make sure it can stand up. As an architect, you need artistic talent, but not as much for engineers. Not all civil engineers are structural engineers though. Some are geotechnical, environmental, water resources.... those don't deal with building design that much.

Architecture has more work I think, but I wouldn't say the material is more difficult to understand. Architects spend 1/2 their college lives in their studios working on their models. I know one who spent an entire day making little trees for her project, so some of the work isn't hard, but just time consuming. It's also a 5 year program if you go for a BArch, or a 4 year BA plus a 2 (or maybe 3?) year MArch program, instead of the 4 years for engineering.

Oh that doesn't sound so bad at all. It's time consuming like Computer Science in the programming aspect. Oh vey, I like games, but I don't like programming, how can this be? I like the crowd I'm working with. Civil engineers seem to be more concerned about travelling, but I would like move to S.F. and if I did Civil Engineering I would go for water management or something since it seems like I can get a job in that haha.

Wait let me get this straight here. Now, I know why Computer Science is put with the other engineering majors besides theory and taking overlapping courses like C++ or computer hardware. Those architecture and engineering projects take about a day or a few to finish? So does programming, and depending on a programmer's knowledge, they will probably get done in a day or a week for weekly program assignments. I've stayed up until evening(once even at midnight) just to go through the program little by little. And we do this like maybe 3 times a week more or less. Sucks when it comes to making games somewhat. Now, what I don't get is why C++ is considered easier, when the total working hours compared to engineering seems like you have to devote your life to school with programming. Why is this major easy now? It's just as abstract as math.
