How is Columbia University Like?

Can any current or former students to Columbia describe what it was like when attending? I have been trying to find out as much as I can about the school, and I did get a chance to watch that video that is on the Columbia website, but I would like to know more. The wikipedia page is ok as well, but is there anyone who can give me a first-person account of their experiences there? Include your favorite things about Columbia, and maybe even a few things (if any) that drove you crazy while you were attending. Thanks a lot!

bump…man bump!

Current freshman here, just finished finals

Columbias awesome, simply put. Its everything I expected while anxiously anticipating my first day here, and probably more. Made a ton of friends, everyone here is pretty social. You’ll findour group of friends if u look hard enough.

The good: solid college campus protecting u from the city, the city itself, the people, most classes are intriguing and fun

The bad: very busy (unless u love being busy of course), food gets kinda old, expense of living, frontiers of science

Thank you for replying!! What is the frontiers of science that you refer to? Is it a class?

Also, I don’t know if you remember, but when you applied to Columbia, did you have the “what is the most appealing thing about Columbia” question? I do know some of the reasons why I want to attend, but how do I go about presenting this in an essay? My idea was to address each aspect of Columbia that I like and explain how that fits me as a person, BUT I was told that just talking about aspects of Columbia is boring, since the information can be found through some digging on their website. How do I turn the “why our school” essay into less of a drudge?

nwdivisionchamps, if i wanted to get a single dorm, but also wanted to meet a lot of people, which of the residential halls should i opt for??? furnald single, john jay single, or llc single? im not the most sociable person, and i definitely want a single dorm for the sake of privacy, but i dont want to miss out on making friends. any suggestions? =P

@breakdown
You should probably go with John Jay, and then try to be sociable and hope that you end up on a very social floor! Carman is very social, but you’re not going to have the same degree of privacy. You could also consider the LLC, which is pretty social and has mixed-class suite-style living.

im probably going to do john jay single. ty pwoods!
