harder?, same?

im thinking about doing the CC route to school

there's less competition for me personally since my hs was pretty darn competitive especially my math classes

CC is MUUUUUUUUUUUCHO easier than high school... for me at least.

I did pretyy horribly in HS (3.3 UW, 3.6W) and took bunch of AP courses which I only passed 5 of 8 I took. But it really helped. It turns out that all of them had prepared me for cc. Writing Essays became easier, and having attended a very competitive high school, competition in cc seem so minimal to me.

so really, it depends. It's a fresh start.
I think cc is LOT easier though.

It's different. Usually just a progression. Instead of learning trig in HS you move on to calculus in JC. Professors use profanity. Less homework (usually) more papers. MUCH better schedule. Bigger classes. Average class time is 2 hours instead of 40min.

the pool of talent in my hs math class was just ridiculous

we had people that end up goin to cal tech, stanford, dartmouth, harvard, northwestern, berk, ucla,...etc

the ap score was kinda crazy too....1 person didn't pass, 2 people got a 3, 2/3 of the rest got a 5 and the remaining 1/3 got a 4

actually, avg class time for me was an hour.
But it depends on the unit of the class.
the amount of unit indicates how many hours/week you have for that class.

So for example, my calc class was 5 units.
That means the class was 5 hours/week.
I chose the schedule where I went to class everyday (M-F) for an hour.
There was also the one wehre you attend three times a week, but the class session is slightly longer (about 1 hour and 40 minutes).

It's really up to how you schedule your classes.

I can guarantee you. One unique skill you learn in college that you never learn in high school: Time Management. Yes, even in cc. you are FREE to do however you want to schedule your class, but at the same time you get to make lots of decisions.

Leaving time to study, thinking about club participation, lunch time, job time, etc.

You really learn that skill, and really prepares you for the 4 year university education.

I agree with dhl3 and others; taking those AP classes in high school, and doing well in them, will ensure a quick and easy time in relatively non-competitive CC's (especially mine, which is located in the inner city, with a lot of... non-competitive people, so to speak). You'll be fine.

My only tip for you is to not limit your academic growth to the CC standards. I have known many people who took the CC route, passed their classes with ease and made it to UCLA, but did horrible their first semester because they did not train their study and work habits to what it takes in order to succeed at the university level. Don't only think of it as an easy route to a good university, but also as a practice for what will be expected.

And you can brag about your grade too (cuz cc studnets in average tend to get better grade than 4 year universities).

I remmeber when my friend used to tease me for attending a cc (he goes to University of Washington in Seattle). Now, he's totally jealous of me. His dream school was a UC Berkeley, but now that he's going to a 4 year university (plus he's out of state), it became almost impossible for him to transfer. Plus, he regrets going to a 4 year university directly. He's getting 3.5 (which is a very good grade in a 4 year university), but whenever I tell him my grade, he becomes super *ed and tell me to * and stop bragging :P

plus, whenever I tell him that I am almost sure ill get into any of UCLA/UCB, he literally boils himself up.
hahaha i love seeing that.

wow you are such a great friend.....

and if you are 'almost sure' you'll get into UCLA/UCB, then feel free to stop starting threads about yourself.

ilovecalifornia, community college students like dhl3 already face enough social stigma. Let him and all the others let the people who make fun of community college students eat up all that crap when those same community college students triumph and make it to the big universities.

lol yeah dhl3 loves himself a lot.

As for the difficulty of CC compared to high school, my humanities classes (english/history/etc.) have been equal to high school AP courses.

My math classes have been harder, but they've all been upper level calc courses compared to high school where I finished with Calc I.

Yet to take science...I'd say CC is generally the same difficulty as my high school.

ilovecali, seriously just shut up.
Why do you want to start crap with me every time you see my post?
It's annoying.

from what i've seen, ilovecali tries to start crap with everyone.

You're not special dhl :D

i just took a crap, it reminded me of this thread.

lmao.........

ilovecali this ilovecalifornia that...

sry i dont like brand or dhl bc they start threads every other minute and ask a million questions...its egocentric..more specifically Dhl cuz he'll just start a thread about anything, even if the answer is already out there. its just a waste of space and time to sort through...

hate me, i couldn't care less.

ilovecali, that's what this board is for. To ask questions.

Besides, I know tons of other people who ask the same question over and over.

a million wrongs dont make a right..

sigh ok look i'm pmsing so thats gonna be my excuse for the week.....

but seriously people, feel free to go to dhl's profile and see all the threads he has started and count all the pointless threads he has started with all the answers already out there lol i'd do it myself if i didn't have a life...but i do. i'm late for work....see u guys in 12 hours

well PMS is difficult I'm sure...

I guess threads a/b school supplies and the new CC format are far more important than asking how CC compares to HS...

So you've been PMSing for past two weeks.
I just went over my profile, and I don't recall making same thread twice that asks teh same question.

and really, how many people here actually search the entire thread to look for the answer to the quesiton they have? It's much faster to just make a new thread about it.

ilovecali, I don't see anyone complaining about me making threads. actually, you complain about me making threads, well MORE people complain about you letting your PMS out on anyone you encounter just cuz you feel it's a privilege for you to do it.

what an asshattery.
