How is Computer Engineering in college?

I'd like to have a description of what you do in computer engineering for your four years of college and then how the job outlook is. This is kinda similar to that other thread about difficulty of Electrical Engineering, but for Computer instead. Thanks

dude, you can go to any university website and check out their department and their course load.

I just want a general description and how hard it is.

Everything and nothing is hard and easy.

I think working as a cashier is hard. I think the stock market these days is easy money.

It all depends on the person, I find college easier than high school.

I understand you don’t know much about it and you want some information, but it’s tough for us to answer vague questions. I guess as a CE you will learn programming, computer science, processor architecture, circuits, and stuff.

Vitare:

A Computer Engineering major will likely be one of the more difficult and rigorous majors at the college you attend. For most people, CE, CS, or most other engineering courses will be more difficult and require more work than most humanities majors (history, PoliSci, psych, women’s studies, etc.) for example. How ‘hard’ it will be will depend completely on the individual student, their capabilities, and their willingness to do the work.

For CE you’ll generally study how to write programs, how to do software engineering, how to design some electronic circuits, how to write in assembler language, study higher levels of math, physics, and take some humanities and GE courses as well.

The actual content of the major will vary from college to college but the above should be generally true.

The job oulook for the CS/CE fields is generally strong and they tend to have among the highest starting salaries of any BS degreed grad.

Notice that I said ‘generally’ and ‘most people’ - different people will have different capabilities and experiences and the programs at the colleges vary.

Sounds good.

I love how you have to emphasize the generalness or else you’d start a 50-page-long “my major’s harder than yours” contest. I love forums.

CE is a good, solid, tough major. I can’t say I can see myself doing that sort of stuff, but if it’s for you, it’s a good major to choose.

Ahah if you like to mix programming and hardware CompEng is for you ;). Its not easy or hard (though if either it would be closer to hard :P.) It really depends on your interests…if you like, the classes most likely will come by much easier.
