I absolutely love to dance, and I was thinking about going to an all girls boarding school which offers dance as an athletic. I saw the "10 things I love about Deerfield" video and I really liked it. Is Deerfield's dance program good? How many hours a day can you dance?
Also, how good do your grades have to be to get into Deerfield?

[Dance :: Deerfield Academy :: an independent, coeducational boarding high school](http://www.deerfield.edu/arts/index.cfm?page_id=429)

Here’s a link to their dance program.

There’s no grade requirement but I think that a 3.75+ GPA is absolutely necesseary (unless you’re some sort of athletic recruit). Also it’s depending on if u need financial aid or if you’ll pay for the entire education for yourself. But all in all Deerfield’s one of the most competetive boarding schools in the WORLD they accpted only 14% of almost 1900 applications and their avarage SSAT score was 88%. But I can list the determinating factors (not in order of importance though) that’ll decide your chance of admission.

Grades

Standardized tests (SSAT, ISEE, TOEFL etc.)

Recommendations

Extra curriculars

Interviews

Essays

Under represented minority (for example if you’re from C

as well as special “hooks” and legacy.

God, there were so many kids yesterday who were legacy or had siblings go to DA already.

anyone know what schools offer the best dance programs for experienced dancers, but are also academically challenging? like is deerfields program good for the dancer who wants to dance ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap every week?

I believe that SPS has a very good company for experienced dancers. You must audition at your interview however and send in a lot of information.

okay. i will look it up. thanks.

Exeter just got a brand new dance studio.

SPS’s dance program (and company) seems to be really well-known. if you’re serious about dance, SPS is the school to look into.

PS: 1001th post… eheheh

Some of the schools with good dance program:

Hotchkiss, St.Paul, Taft, Deerfield, Westover, Walnut Hill, Westminister, Thacher

I read on the Deerfield Scroll website that they had an excellent dancer named Ingrid Kapteyn. She was one of the only 12 female dancers accepted into Julliard. Here’s the link to the article: [Ingrid Kapteyn 09 Raises the Barre|The Scroll](http://scroll.deerfield.edu/?p=113)

NMH also has a dance company i think

Choate has the best performing arts department.

Check into the all girls schools. Many of them have terrific dance programs.
Miss Porters & Stoneleigh Burnham are two I know for sure do, but I know that it is very common at the all girls schools

i know someone who goes to walnut hill and they like it although idk how challenging the academics are.

Walnut Hill sends many grads to Juilliard and similar colleges as well as on to professional dance companies. The academics are strong, but are scheduled to specifically support the student’s artistic pursuits. It runs on a special academic system created at Harvard for artists desiring strong academics.
