How is Elliott compared to SFS?

I am currently looking at some IR programs to apply. I know SFS is really renowned for its professors and internships and all that stuff. Is elliott just has renowned? Good internships, good professors, good students? From what i have read, the SFS students are really determined and passionate about IR, is that the case with Elliott?

also, one more question. Gtown goes by "work hard, play hard" student life. is GWU similar in that regard?

thanks

I absolutely had my heart set on SFS, but was rejected, so I’m going to Elliott.

There are great professors and internship opportunities in both (although GW’s location is much more convenient).

But honestly, Georgetown is in another league. If you get accepted to both, I would strongly recommend SFS (if you’re into the working realllly hard attitude). GW seems to have a good mix of pretty social students that work hard and is a bit less intense.
I would visit both, b/c the atmosphere is different. I’ve met people that hated GW and I’ve met students that dropped out of Gtown and transferred b/c they didn’t like the student body.

Hope that helped a bit.

yea im applying to both SFS and elliott, with SFS being the school my heart is set on. I am not too confident about my chances with SFS so i am starting to research elliott as the school ill probably attend…

its gonna be tough because SFS is absolutely perfect for me in every way. i know GW is a great school but i don’t know how i feel about the city campus, low school spirit. The Gtown “work hard play hard” is perfect for me. (it’s not a snobby thing, i just think the energy at Gtown is better for me)

Getting into SFS is harder than getting into some Ivy Leagues (I couldn’t even tell you what they want in an applicant), but you really should try.

And don’t overlook GW!
I did that when I was applying to colleges as a high school senior, b/c it wasn’t selective …and made a huge huge mistake.

I too was one of the disappointed when I wasn’t accepted to SFS. But I researched both schools, visited, talked to profs, etc. I found that GU has been resting on their laurels for a bit too long and that their technology is not up to date, their internships are very selective, their dorms are run down and their endowments are down which means these things will not be remedied soon. GW is up and coming and can continue to give you up to date technology, refurbish dorms each year, provide millions of internships and connect you with incredible career networking bc of its location and endowments are good. I do agree that it often is “not what you know, but who you know” and GU knows a lot of the right people, but GW knows almost all of them. You will have decide whether you need that SFS name on your diploma to make you whole, or whether you really want to be out in the trenches every semester at GW and “walk the walk.”

Apply to both and see what happens also American. Gw also gives good scholarships. NSM GT.

American also offers International Studies as a major. Just remember that none of these schools offer a degree in IR. IR itself is a course/field. These schools are moving towards a more holistic view of International Studies, and do not completely focus on IR.

American’s International Studies degree is offered through their School of International Service. It’s an IR degree with a different name.
