How is Gillette Hall?

Someone in an earlier post said the doubles were tiny...Does anyone know how it is?

The rooms vary, or at least they used to. My ex-gf lived in Gillette and they had a massive double, almost the size of a triple…

There are some rooms that are triples that were used as doubles last year, but most of the doubles in Gillette are, unfortunately, very small.

someone said they have closets but with no doors…do you know about that? Are they smaller than the doubles in Branscomb- say, smaller than the rooms in Vaughn???

How are they compared to the rooms in Memorial, which is even older, lol?

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO AS SMALL AS BRANSCOMB, none of the closets in teh commons have doors, why the heck do u need a door, what u trying to hide?

Daughter and her roommate used shower rods and matching fabric shower curtains as “doors” for their closets.

I believe at least some of the closets in North and in Memorial have doors.

I lived in Gillette last year and most of the rooms were tiny. Only the rooms on the 6th floor were what I would consider comfortable for two people. My roommate and I had our beds lofted to opposite sides of the room and there was about enough room in between to stand on one side and stick out your arm. We ended up having our desks under our beds with a fridge on the wall after the bed on one side and a circular chair and a bookshelf on the other side. We ended up putting the TV on another bookshelf in our window. It was really small but we made it work. Our room was even smaller by Gillette standards because we were in the corner. I know a lot of other people were able to move at least some of the desk (its in 3 parts) out from under their bed. I also saw some boys loft one bed and put one under that one in an l shape and that freed up a bit more room. The closet do not have doors, but I never really had a problem, and the curtain idea was used a lot if you are really worried about it.

thanks for the update. I actually saw the room about a week ago and you are right. It is tiny- way smaller than daughter’s old room in Branscomb. nothing we can do though.

Question, if you “L” the beds with one under the other…how much room would you have at the end of the 2 beds. Would there be enough room to put one of the dressers or the desk?

I actually only saw boys do it so they arranged it a little differently than I would have. They had the L in one corner with one of the dresser pieces next to the bed under the lofted one. Along that same wall they had the other two pieces used as the desk. They had another dresser piece along the wall of the window at the foot of the bed of the L so they could still access it. Along the other wall they had the other 2 desk pieces. They also had a couple of plastic storage shelves that they stacked on the 2 dresser pieces across from the bed. They ended up putting the TV on top of one of the plastic shelves (on top of the dresser) so they could both see it in bed. There still wasn’t a whole lot of room, but it opened up a bit more floor space in the middle that made it not seem quite as small. I didn’t feel as cramped in there as my room.

From earlier posts and comments,it sounds like the double rooms in Gillette Hall are much smaller than the rooms in the other Commons dorms? Does anyone know if this is true?

I didn’t see too many of the other dorms but from what I did and what I heard Gillette is probably the smallest rooms on the Commons, besides the 6th floor which has much larger rooms, though maybe not quite as big as some of the other new dorms. There are definitely dorms that are way bigger and some that are just a little bit bigger, but just a few extra square feet really makes a big difference to make it more manageable (as in not being forced to loft your bed). Hope that helps.
