How is GPA calculated?

I go to a British School so we dont do GPA scores. How is it calculated? Do you use end of year grades, grade cards or something else?

Generally, semester grades are used. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1 and F=0. Most high schools give an extra point for AP or honors courses. +/- grades vary school to school so, many colleges ignore them. .25 is pretty typical, meaning a B+=3.25 while a B-=2.75. From there it’s a simple average.

It can depend on the school. Some use a 100 point scale like British system and provide that as the GPA without scaling it to the highest grade based on an A.
