How is GPA Calculated?

I know that usually each grade corresponds with a weight (ie A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, etc) and then you multiply by the number of credits. To get the cumulative GPA you add up the value from all your courses and divide it by the total credits.

My program requires 120 credits, of which 30 are electives. If I decide to take 45 credits of electives for my own personal desire, would any credits in excess of 30 not be factored into my GPA? Lets say I already completed my 30 credits of electives but now have done better in one of my extra elective courses. Is it possible to have this course count for the degree GPA instead of one I already completed or is it generally the course you completed first? Essentially can you pick and choose which courses would count if you have extras?

I’ve never heard of a school that does it that way. Everywhere I’m familiar with takes your GPA out of the total eligible credits (meaning, things like Pass/fail are excluded unless you fail).

I’d check with your specific school though.

No. Barring some odd exception, every class you take factors into your GPA.
