How is UW GPA recalculated, or is it recalculated at all? I'm nervous that the elimination of my electives will leave me with a terribly low GPA.

I don’t think it’s so much a specific numbers process as it is them reviewing what grades you got and your schedule difficulty. If you have lower grades in your honors/AP classes, then that will certainly have an effect.

Okay, thanks. Do you think that 5 B+'s in my freshman/sophomore years will greatly hurt my application?

5 is quite a bit but it won’t “greatly hurt” your application. Were they in your AP/honors classes? What’s your overall GPA? If you have a solid application otherwise, then you have a shot.

Yes, all of them were in H’s classes, except for one B in my freshman year in a non-honors science course.

I’m not sure of overall GPA because my school just gives us percentages (weird, I know), but it’s probably around a 3.7 since I have a 92% average.

That’s probably below the mean for unhooked applicants but it’s not a dealbreaker. Good luck!

Thank you!

From my school, the only people with those grades that get in are athletic recruits. But my school has lots of grade inflation (a 92 average wouldn’t put you in the top 10% of the class). You’re judged in the context of your school. In general (perhaps unsurprisingly), you have to be among a handful of the best students in your school to get in. I don’t think many people outside of our top 5% or so get in on academic merit alone.

I’m pretty sure that I’m in the top 5% of my class.
