My D (freshman) has the Dean’s scholarship and must have a 3.0 GPA to keep it. She says that she has B- and B+ in classes and doesn’t seem to know if her GPA will be computed using the + or -. Any experienced parents or students out there care to comment?

I'm actually not sure how they compute GPA...but unless things have changed, your GPA for merit aid renewal is not based on one semester, but rather your GPA at the end of the year.

They just added a GPA calculater on to the student link, she can look there. They do take + and - into consideration.

(Credit Hours X Grade) = Honor Points

(Sum of Honor Points earned to date/Sum of total credit hours earned)=GPA

A=4.0
A-=3.7
B+=3.3
B=3.0
B-=2.7
C+=2.3
C=2.0
C-=1.7
D=1.0
F=0

i thought a B+ was a 3.5, B 3.3, B- 3.0, and everything pushed up like that.

He's right. And they lump the top 3 grades as Excellent, the middle 3 as good and next 2 as satisfactory.

Here's the long version of the GPA calculation summary by ryanbis:

Bottom line is an A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0 and F = 0.0 - which conforms to standard grading values everywhere. Only difference I have seen is when I attended grad school at Cornell - A+ = 4.3 - if I remember correctly. I take it BU does not award A+.
