If some classes are weighted more than others, how can you tell?
Is it by concentration level (e.g. 1xx vs 3xx)?
Are honors classes weighted any differently than non-honors courses?
At my high school, a person who got a 100% got the same GPA for the class as the person who got a 89.6%. Is it the same at UMD (e.g. are there different GPA values for an "A+" and an "A-")?</p>
<p>Oh, and did anyone not take ENGL393 because they got an "A" in ENGL101, despite it being strongly recommended? Because I barely missed the sat score required (660 instead of 670), so I figured I have a decent chance at getting an "A" and I REALLY DO NOT want to take more English than I am required to do.</p>
<p>My son plans to take 393 in spite of his grade in 101 because it is required to sit for the CPA exam. Your decision may depend upon your career plans.</p>
<p>classes are weighted according to how many credits they are i.e. a 4 credit class has twice the impact as a 2 credit one. </p>
<p>100 classes are introductory, mainly freshmen. 400 classea are usually the upper level courses in a major, typically for seniors. everything in between is, well, in between.</p>
<p>In terms of GPA, honors classes are weighed the same, and 100% = 90% = A.</p>
<p>If you are an Engineering major or you are planning on going to a graduate school program that requires an upper level writing course, you will have to take an ENGL39* course (391, 393, etc.). Otherwise, you can get out of ENGL39* by getting an A in ENGL101 or getting a 670+ on your SAT Verbal.</p>
