How is GPA submitted?

I’m just wondering how the different Ivy schools want the high school gpa ? (is it the weighted gpa from 9th to 12th grade…). Do they really put a lot of weight on your junior year… how do you make sure they know your gpa is lower then it should be because you did extra things that gave you extra credits (plus sports).

Weighted GPA is not usually considered because they are inflated.
Colleges recalculate your GPA.

how do they recalculate your GPA?
do they count freshman year?
do they count sumer school?

(if it depends for each college, does anyone know how they calculate it for upenn)?

This is a very good question, so I thought I'd bump it.

Yes, they do count freshman year and summer school (i think they add extra for cc classes, dunno tho).

Your counselor should have a list of classes approved by all colleges as honors for extra points. All AP's are given extra points. I'm sure there is some level of regulation.

For example, in California, all colleges in the nation follow the "UC approved" system for applicants from California.

Some don't count freshmen grades, like Princeton. It all depends on the college.

Interesting...and how about harvard and yale? I tried to look it up online.. maybe I'm looking for the wrong term..

I'm still in question as to why junior year is always emphasized by most people I've met (counselors, teachers, other students, etc)>

That's because freshmen year is getting used to high school, and sophomore year is when you really start with your courses you want. Since collegs can't see your grades for senior year, they consider junior year the most important year of high school.
