How is Harvard like Hogwarts?

I've heard of people, one being my friend's friend, choosing Harvard because of its association or similarities with Harry Potter.

So, how is it like Hogwarts/Harry Potter

I never read and do not like HP, but everyone says Annenberg, the dining hall, looks Hogwartsy.

I don’t think Harvard looks like Hogwarts at all, at least on the outside. Maybe the residential house system?

Annenberg looks incredible.

[Annenberg Hall](Memorial Hall)

well you can find ■■■■■■ at harvard and at hogwarts

  • we take OWLS but call them OMLS instead
-accpetance is a crapshoot at both schools
-you take potions at Harvard but its called chemistry
    -there are houses
-both Harvard and Hogwarts had a funeral service for Dumbledore
    -they both don’t like MIT
    -everybody wants to go there
    feel free to add

It’s full of witches.

Na, nk (mostly). I think the reference in mainly in relation to Annenberg. But Harvard does not resemble Hogwarts more than other schools.

I think there’s a Quidditch team at Harvard.

I believe it’s for two major reasons:

Annenberg Hall, the freshman dining hall, looks a lot like Harry Potter’s Great Hall.

The upperclass housing is just like the house system from Harry Potter.

Honestly every single Ivy League school I visited compared itself to Hogwarts on my tours or campus visits. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, UPenn, Williams (not Ivy obviously), Stanford, all found some way to compare themselves to Hogwarts. My tour guide at Harvard even said “I know everyone likes to compare themselves to Hogwarts, so I hate saying this, but…”

Harvard Square has a certain “Hogsmeade”-ish quality to it. :)

I heard Univ. of Rochester looks more like Hogwarts than Harvard haha

^or U of Chicago!

U Chicago has my favorite campus ever followed by URoch. I love that place.

Harry Potter is overrated. I had to bite my teeth just to finish the first book it was sooo annoying. And I never leave an unfinished book. Bad habit, bad habit.

However, I’ve read all 6 Jason Bourne novels so screw Harry Potter.

1) HP is not overrated, it is the greatest.

2) Harvard doesn’t resemble Hogwarts at all, with the exception of the interior of Annenberg. Princeton/Yale are much more similar to Hogwarts than H.

Threads like these only show how some people are way too into this. More HP junkies than Star Wars freaks these days.

At Harvard you get “sorted” into your house. There’s no sorting hat @ Harvard, but the system is a bit mysterious + full of strange traditions.

The quidditch team is just a bit… well, see for yourself: [Club Quidditch Team Works Budget Magic | The Harvard Crimson](Club Quidditch Team Works Budget Magic | News | The Harvard Crimson)

The “Sorting” concept applies much more to Yale than to Harvard. In Yale you’re placed into a residential college before you even enter the school, and in HP the students are sorted before school actually starts as well.

Oxford and Cambridge look more like Hogwarts as Harry Potter was filmed at a college in Oxford.

Bryn Mawr is better!

@Phreez - Yes, but at Yale the “sorting” is done via mail before you arrive at school (i believe?) while at Harvard it’s a big hoopla (a la HP).
