how is important 3.6 compared to a 3.5

Good for you. I hope you enjoy the intense "life of the mind" at UChicago. I'm still worried about the 3.6 vs. 3.5 issue though, myself.

My only frustration with the medical excuse thing is that, coming out of high school a student with a GPA a little on the low side (3.4) from a very tough high school, none of the colleges I visited made it clear in the interview that my chances for acceptance were much slimmer than for most of their accepted applicants. Yet in hindsite, I feel that this was the case. If I am probably not going to be accepted for transfer because of my second-semester GPA, irregardless of a medical excuse and the rest of the application (essays, ECs, test scores, and recs) being near the top of their applicant pool in quality, I wish they would just tell me so that I'll save some money and wait to apply until next year.

what was ur first semester gpa and what was your second semester gpa?

dont colleges evaluate the GPAs and weigh them differently because someones 3.5 could be all from BS classes, compared to a student who has harder/ honors courses

First semester GPA: 3.6. Second semester GPA: 3.1.

Yes lightbulb, colleges evaluate different courses differently. But colleges I'm looking at are colleges that reject many applicants which are qualified academically any way you which to look at it.

and the 3.6 got you into all of those places, chicago and swarthmore??

You're still just worried about yourself, aren't you? Sheesh* I'm a good writer and was active in the Smith community, aight? But clearly you write okay too, b/c you got in Chicago and Cornell and will get into Chicago again. I mean, I'm only continuing on with "my chances" type stuff for so long b/c my situation is complicated. Your situation isn't. Stop detracting other people's conversations to yourself.

okay, but u keep asking the same question, and keep getting the same answers. If you really want to know, call up an ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR and ASK YOURSELF. You don't have to tell them your name, just tell them your story, and find out what will be the result here. No one here knows squat.
