I've read the instructions on the admissions ticket a few times and asked my sibling (who took the SAT several years ago) about it, but I'm still very nervous. This October test is my first SAT :( So if you have taken the SAT test before, could you please answer some of my questions?

Watches. The admission ticket says an electronic watch that has recording/communication function is banned. Does that mean I can bring a watch that doesn't have both functions? Was it ok to do so? Or should I just play safe and take an analog one with me?

Breaks. The CB says to bring snacks and water for the breaks. How many breaks do we get? How long are they? Do we get them after every section?

2 pencils. My sister tells me at her test center the teachers didn't let the test takers to use mechanical pencils. My friend says it was totally fine. How was it for you guys?

When did the test end? I'm getting different numbers from different people, so could you please tell me when yours ended?

Sorry to inundate you with so many questions :( I'm really, really nervous. I checked my bag thousands of times and did two test drives to the test center, and am still nervous!

Thanks in advance!

(Uh, this is kind of SAT prep, right? I hope I'm not rambling on the wrong forum...)

I haven’t taken the test yet (planning for March) but I would play it safe and take analog watch to be safe. You can even reset it to noon at the beginning of each section so you can parse out how much time you have left easily

I think that we get two breaks but bring lots of snacks to stay cool… I am sure you have this!

You should not use mechanical pencils because even though they can be number two they don’t act well with the scantron. My school does not allow use to use mechanical pencils on any scantrons

I think that tests end differently based on when you get started but it should probably be around 1230 to 1 oclock, right?

Relax and think that you will do great… it works!

Put fresh batteries in your calculator (and don’t forget it), and dress in layers with a sweatshirt or something long sleeved so you don’t get distracted by being too hot or too cold. And of course don’t forget your ID! Other than that, i agree with@sammytries. Good that you are thinking ahead.

Use a digital watch. As long as it’s not a smart watch or any type of watch that can communicate in any form. Trust me, it’ll be allowed. Personally, I take a long time to tell time on an analog
You get one break after section 2, one after section 4, and the last one after section 6. So, 3 in all. I ate sugary stuff during the breaks and they really gave me an energy boost.
Only #2 pencils. I’m pretty sure mechanical pencils aren’t allowed.
The test starts around 8:15 so I’m sure it ends at around 12:15-12:30
I should probably go print my admission ticket now. I leave a lot to the last day Great planning on your part!

All good advice. If I recall correctly, my son checked in 7:30-7:45 and didn’t leave until nearly 1pm. A fair amount of time is spent on instructions, bubbling in name, or whatever they do. Someone always straggled in late without a pencil.

Agree about #2 pencils, except son used mechanical for each SAT, Subject Test, and PSAT even though the College Board’s instructions clearly state no mechanical pencils allowed.

As @intparent suggests above, bring extra batteries unless you just changed the batteries in your calculator.

Whatever you do, do NOT turn on your phone during the exam, even during breaks.

It sounds as though the test center is not your own high school. You may want to ask where students enter the building. Test takers enter via the library entrance at our school, as opposed to the front entrance. The test center’s website may have information about this.
