how is it possible that SAIC's graduation rate is ~50%?

my numbers might be wrong, but this is what i keep hearing. i dont feel very excited about applying to this school because of these figures, but im curious to know why. im planning on studying graphic design, and my dad is constantly pushing me to apply to SAIC (i dont know how strong the graphic d. program is at SAIC). does anyone know why the rate is so horribly low? (aside from SAIC, the worst ive heard of was around 86% grad rate)

rex-craft,

I looked at graduation rates for several schools last year when my daughter was applying. According to the government's college statistics, SAIC's six-year grad rate was 53%. This is on the low end for art schools. Here are some others to compare:

CCAD (Columbus) - 55%
KCAI - 60%
MICA - 72%
MassArt - 62%
Pratt - 60%
RISD - 90%
UArts - 56%

These numbers may have been updated by now. You'd have to check the NCES website.

We visited SAIC, but didn't talk to anyone from their graphic design department since it was summer and very few people were around. So we didn't get a good feel for how they were at graphic design even though that is what my daughter is majoring in.

There were some quirks about SAIC I didn't like. Mainly no grades and no dining hall. Neither one of those would have been a good idea for my daughter.

If possible, I'd recommend you visit this fall. If not, at least talk to their rep at NPD.
