How is it?

I was accepted a month ago and was wondering how it was. My teacher went there about five year sago and said it was okay but didn't satsify her too much. However, iI talked to osmeone and they said it has a beautiful campus and that it's a pretty good school. What do you guys think of it?

I'm looking for some info on UNH too. My D was accepted into the Honors Program with a Presidential Scholarship, and we're going to the Honors welcome day on Saturday. I'm wondering if UNH will be competitive enough for her compared to the other schools where she's applied (Fordham, Northeastern, Penn, UConn), have heard that it's a big party school.

I also applied to Northeastern, Penn, and UConn. I got wait listed to Penn State- University Park and got into UCONN todayy and still waiting for NEU. I know a few people who applied to UConn and UNH and chose UNH instead because they didn't feel like a number. I haven't visited any of them yet but plan on doing so ASAP.

Precollegemom... do you mind if I ask what your D's stats were? My son got into UNH, his SAT scores were 800/800/760 and a couple of 800s on SATII, he is a National Merit Finalist, his school does not rank, so he did not have a class rank. He was NOT invited to the Honors Program at UNH. He was given a Deans Scholarship. I am wondering if I should call the admissions office.

twosonmom....WOW, I can't believe he applied to UNH when he is good enough for Ivies and such. I got in with SAT scores of 660/650/620

We are waiting to hear from some other schools, but he LOVED UNH. It is a beautiful school. ( I may be a little biased... his father and I are alums!)

Haha, what is he looking to major in? I've heard great things about it too.

i visited UNH last spring and the campus was nice but the town around it was pretty boring. a pizza place...convenienve store...just a few things. my neighbor went there a while ago and loved it. she says it is a big party school but wasn't out of control.

i'm wondering if anyone here was deferred to regular admission at UNH. when will they send letters out? they said sometime in march in the letter but i don't think regular admission letters come out until april. i'm not really sure why i was deffered though. GPA is a 3.4 and SAT's are 690CR, 680M, 670W. SAT II's: 680Bio and lots of extracurriculars etc. the letter gave me a link to go to so any questions i had could be answered and it basically told me nothing really mattered except for GPA and maybe SATs. they said ec's were just for us to discover our likes/dislikes etc. sort of dissapointed that i was deferred because i applied to some harder schools (some of which i've got into) so i'm a little confused as to what they were looking for.

I have a 3.45 GPA, SATs are 620CR/650W/660M and some ECs but got in back in January.

rma32, are you from out of state? I think it is harder to get into UNH as a non-resident.

i am from out of state but the discouraging part is that others in my class have been accepted to UNH with lower scores...and i know for a fact that they are lower. i don't mind much...i know there are other factors than scores but it just sort of freaked me out when i realized i didn't get into one of my easiest schools and i applied to some much more difficult schools.

rma32, have you heard back yet? I know you said you got deferred to regular admission, but have you gotten your decision on that yet? I know it stinks when you see other students who are accepted and you have better scores and grades. Who knows why the admissions dept. makes some of the decisions they do. Good luck, and I am sure that if you don't get into UNH one the (many ;)) other schools you do get into will be lucky to have you!!!

thanks

and no, i haven't heard back yet.

rma, Just curious, did you apply as undecided, or for a particular major at UNH? Perhaps that makes a difference.

i chose a biology major

hmm, I know someone who applied for a business major OOS and was rejected. UNH should have been a match school. For what it is worth, my son was deferred at 2 schools, and he never sent in any additional information. He just figured that he would not get in, and he gave up on them and never contacted him after his deferrals. He was accepted RD to both, and one offered a generous merit award.

I know last year, UNH ran into some problems with offering admission to many and then when more than expected decided to some, they were scrambling to figure out where to house all the kids. They offered some incentives to instate kids who lived close to school to live at home, etc. I wondered if they were being a bit more conservative this year with the number of admits offered. Also, have heard some of the programs have become more competiive and even for instate students, UNH is no longer a safety school. Many of my S friends found this out when they were also deferred or not offered admission.

That's good to hear that it is getting academically better, I want a school that will challenge me. I also like the fact that it's so close with NASA.

just thought i'd let everyone know that i got my acceptance letter today after being deferred...i had asked earlier about being deferred and stuff. i applied to life sciences and agriculture with a molecular bio major and i'm from out of state.

i also realized that earlier when i was wondering why people at my school ahd been accepted and not me that my SAT scores were lower than they are now...probably in the middle of their range but now they are way higher.

Congratulations rma32!!!! I sure you are happy to have that acceptance in hand.
