These are the things I'm intrested in doing when I'm older. Can you double major with a BFA? Which of these are the strongest? Does Ithaca get unnoticed since Cornell is in Ithaca too? Thanks!

Also, any Early Admission opportunities? It’s when you skip your senior year.

I am not sure about their BFA program, other than that it is VERYYYYYYY competitive to get into, and for the E.A opp, I recommend calling their admissions office. They are all friendly and answer your questions right away.

Their Print journalim is FABULOUS. It is the whole reason why I am going to Ithaca this fall. They have a weekly paper called The Ithacan that has so many national awards that they are impossible to count (The Pacemaker award being one of them). Their online website is also gaining steam. Then they have magazines galore. One called Buzzsaw Haircut, another called Imprint, and a brand new one called 360 Magazine. There is also one that is pronounced Kitch, but Idk how it is spelled.

Ithaca does not go unnoticed. Cornell is a science/math school while Ithaca is strong in the liberal arts. The two schools do some events together, such as Relay for life, and if there is a class at Cornell that isn’t offered at Ithaca, you can take it there.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to msg me. I’m attending this fall, and have visited the school. =)

Thanks so much. Why would you say Ithaca’s J program is better than other print journalism schools like USC, NYU, Northwestern, UNC- Chapel Hill, Syracuse, etc? How is it different from other schools? Ty

Eh. Wouldn’t go that far. Their J School is in shambles right now. They’re suffering from massive organization problems, and the future and direction of the program are still up in the air. The Ithacan is a wonderful paper, that is true, but many of Ithaca’s journalism students have been rather upset with their undergrad program over the last few years.

The rest of the Park School of Communications is said to be fantastic, however, I’ve constantly heard bad things about the current state of the Journalism program at Ithaca.

Thanks that is something to consider.

I disagree with thenplayon. Their program is actually expanding right now and they are starting to include newer publications and opportunities.

Comparing Ithaca to NYU, northwestern, syracuse, usc and UNC is tricky. I had the option between University of Missouri (a GREAT journ school) NYU and syracuse, but what led me to IThaca is their hands on opportunities. At most schools you can’t even THINK about having your work published until you are a junior, or atleast a sophomore. At Ithaca, you can start working right away which is definitly a plus.

Thanks for answering, but wouldn’t NYU give you more internship opportunities. I heard it is a key and is Ithaca (the city) have that country feeling?

Ithaca definitly has the country feel. The town is compact and full, of course, but the surroundings is nothing but trees and there’s also a lake. Check out these photos:

And NYU has the name and an ideal location, but what turned me off to them is their lack of campus. I can’t imagine not having a designated area for the school… You just have to think of what you want out of a school. NYU was my dream school for 7 years, and when I was accepted, I figured that that’s where I was going to go, but after thinking about what i RELALY wanted in a school, I changed my mind.

Thanks I’m just worried that the journalism school. I have heard mix things so far.

Well, I really don’t know where that lady got her info. The school newspaper JUST won an award for best online newspaper, beating every other college in the country that entered… I don’t see how a school with an “organization problem” could do something so amazing.

So, would you say the journalism school is up and coming? You just don’t hear of Ithaca when you hear of other great journalism schools. I do like the fact that Ithaca is not as hard to get into as other schools.

Their school is up and it is just getting better. But don’t just take my advice, you should do some research into it and see what you think. A name isn’t everything. If it was, I’d be attending Mizzou, NYU, or Northwestern this fall, lol.

Yes, I understand. I just don’t hear much about their journalism school is all.
