How is Lewis and Clark? Including their forensics (speech and debate) program?

I've been looking at schools, particularly Liberal Arts, around the Portland/Seattle area (I am a rising senior) and today my Speech and Debate coach told me that L&C's forensics director is interest in recruiting me for their program, or at least applying into the scholarships and whatnot. I was planning on applying to L&C to begin with so it is a nice surprise that their coach has reached out to mine, even though it was probably just a stock email and tons of other students are getting the same one.

Despite the nice surprise, I wasn't sure how seriously I was considering L&C before all of this. In fact, it was on the bottom of my list for schools in the Pacific Northwest because I have heard many students end up leaving. How does L&C compare to other schools around the area like Willamette and Reed? I've heard mixed reviews, either that people really love it or, apparently, transfer out. I've been in Speech and Debate for my entire high school career, but I never thought about doing it in college until now since they offer between $3k-8k in scholarships. Would it be worth it to look into?

Thanks.

Disclaimer - my D recently graduated from LC.

It’s always worth it to look into a school. The worst thing that can happen is you waste your time. LC is a good school. I believe the degree completion rates are in the top 100 for LACs so I don’t get the “heard many students end up leaving” question. Reed has a 73% six year grad rate, LC’s is a little higher. LC had 88% persistence, Reed’s was a little higher. Willamette’s numbers are right in there too. Look up the data on the Common Data Set for each school.

Thanks for the info and advice! How did your D like LC? Did she enjoy her time there?
