How is Macalester for Computer Science?

Just the title! I got the Turuk scholarship thingy, and I’m curious as to how good Mac’s CS department is!

I am a Computer Science major and the CS department is very good. In fact, our entire MSCS department is growing in size and popularity. We just hired a tenure-track CS professor and will hire two visiting professors for the Fall Semester. The department is super flexible and has both depth & breadth in our courses.

Feel free to message me if you have any more questions! Also, the Turck Scholarship is a huge honor! Congratulations!!!

Best,

I just realized I wrote down the wrong scholarship haha, its actually the DeWitt Wallace one. Would it be easy-ish for me to double major in another science field?

DeWitt Wallace is also fantastic!

Double majoring is super popular, especially in the MSCS department.

Applied Mathematics & Statistics & Computer Science is a popular double major combo. I know a CS major who is planning on going to medical school. I know a philosophy/CS double major. Double majoring is super doable! You will find the CS has lots of overlaps with lots of departments.

Think of it this way- you will need to take around 10~12 classes to major in a discipline. That’s more or less 40 ~ 48 graduation credits. You need 128 at Mac to graduate. Lots of room for additional majors and minors. Personally, I am doing a Major/Minor and plan on taking lots of cool classes.
