So I wanted to take the general path and take MCB 102 over the summer, but due to money issues I will have to get a job at home over the summer so I can't do summer sessions in Berkeley. I was wondering if anybody had any experiences with MCB 102 during the spring because I have heard many things like it is harder in spring rather than in the summer or its about the same as the summer just more memorization while in the summer it is more conceptual. The reason I am asking is because If I do have to take MCB 102 in the spring than I have to take Bio 1A/L in the fall and telebears is coming up and I'm still not sure If I should use 5 units of waitlist on Bio 1A/L and drop chem 3b.

MCB102 in spring 2008 was taught by Calendar, Buchanan, & Zusman. Calendar gave details on what is going to be tested on so you only needed to study that. Therefore, the average was really high ~85ish. Buchanan & Zusman were both harder. Buchanan tested on all the steps of glycolysis/citric acid cycle, so you had to memorize all of it. Zusman was much more conceptual.

Last year for fall 2008, Bio 1AL/1A had spots the week before class began. I don’t know if it’ll be the same with budget cuts and all but it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye out for any spots.

For Fall 2010, if you decide to take MCB 102, you may luck out if Doudna returns… she is much easier than Thorner but she’s currently on sabbatical.

Yah I’m kinda worried about Bio 1AL since I didn’t phase 1 the lab, but It says that there is a waitlist with a max of 10 and I guess not many people waitlist so I would be #1 for the lab. With my unit count I can afford to sign up and waitlist for lab and discussion and not really sacrifice any classes I am currently taking.
