How is move in day going?

So far, things are off to a great start. How are things for the rest of you on move in day and this week?

Just got back home. As always, things were very well organized. Move in was not in the least bit chaotic as I had expected, but all went very smoothly for my D in the Parkside suites. I think that the fact that families came at different times during the day probably helped keep things smooth. There were a lot of personnel and volunteer student helpers who did a great job directing people during all stages of the move in.

Incredibly easy and well organized. Absolutely no chaos. Parking a breeze. Hope son's four years at USC are all like this! USC does a great job.

aww everybody's back. I'm getting on friday :) flying todayyy from Korea. yay for 20 hours of flying back to school.. -_-

Everything seemed to go pretty well yesterday. For an RA, Move In is crazy, no matter what. But it definitely felt smoother than last year, and the weather wasn't that hot, which definitely helped.

Move in was great. USC provides a warm welcome and the kids all looked happy, hopeful and really friendly. At the SCA Welcome reception, I was delighted to meet (in person!) Fauxnom , Suenos53, bmom, Sequoia, nester, in addition to several other wonderful parents who are not ccers. One highlight for me was seeing some of the cc parents' kids meeting and getting along great. At one point they all had their cell phones out and were madly entering each others' #s.

I think many groups (Theatre, Annenberg, Marshall?) hosted individual welcomes. For CSA it was great to see all the families of new students in one place, and the food/music/ambiance was impressive. They also hosted a panel discussion with recent SCA alums who talked about how to make the most of the 4 years at USC. I thought it was exciting. I even liked sitting in the beautiful auditorium and imagining that my S will be taking a class there.

Of course, now that I'm home, the house feels a little different. This is my first one to leave for college, and it's not so easy to be the ones left behind.

Would love to hear other reports. How did the roommates turn out? Anyone forget to pack something important?

My mom will be so jealous to hear about that gathering! She hopes that all of us CCers can meet up sometime during Parent's Weekend. I may be the one posting on here, but she loves lurking and reading (and occasionally emailing me a thread that I absolutely must respond to :)

Yesterday went very smoothly, so far as I could tell. My daughter was complaining about the heat, but she will just have to get used to it; she should know better by now since she spent most of last summer in Southern California. We'll see if they get all of the ethernet and printer set-ups to work. The Marshall parent presentation was great and I was very impressed by Dean Ellis. Now to get registered for Parents' Weekend!

Photos from USC's move in day are included in yesterday's LA Times article, "Some college freshmen's first school day comes late". Check the link/discussion under CC's Hot Topics.

Moved in Wednesday! but ehhh, none of my roomies are here yet. So it's been pretty quiet.

and I forgot a bunch of things (like a pillow) so I'm going home for a bit today to grab some last minute items! :D
