How is my profile looking?

My stats:

2 Captain positions
2 President positions
State level musician

I want to apply to top tier schools, and I can explain my GPA due to home situation.
How am I looking?

Top tier schools like what? Harvard? Look up their Common Data Sets. You’ll see that neither a 3.6 GPA nor a 30 ACT is very competitive for that echelon.

^ Agree. Even worse for Asian.

I’m sorry but it would be a fluke if you got into a “top tier” school the way that term is often used on CC (i.e., top 25 ranking) – not only are your grades and test scores not competitive, but your honors/awards/leadership are not either. If you had won some international awards or something that might change things.

You should aim for the colleges ranged 50-150 for the most part, and include your favorites ranked 25-50 to apply to just in case you get admitted. Obviously, none of us have a crystal ball, so you if you want to take your chances and apply to some in the top 25 ranking, then do so and maybe you will get in – and I’m assuming your family can afford this as well. I just wouldn’t focus on those primarily or you could wind up disappointed at the results.

Being Asian puts you at the bottom of the selection criteria. Also, can you please give us your major and what schools you want to apply to. Top-tier might mean something to you and something different to others.

You know I think it is best to look at the average test scores and gpa for the schools your looking at. You could also study for the ACT and take it again in October. At the end of the day if you could realistically imagine yourself at a college and you are genuinely interested in a college ( and not just because of its rank and prestige, but what it has to offer)go for it. Why let us get in the way of what could make you happy. If you don’t get in well at least you tried, right? Just remember if things don’t turn out the way you wanted them to just keep moving forward.
But, then there’s also the possibility that if you applied to a school where your stats are above their average stats then maybe you would get more money from them. (Excuse my ramblings. I know that isn’t what you asked, I just wanted to lighten up the mood)
Anyways good luck!

Oh yeah, are you a rising senior?

U need to tell us more. What are the top state schools near where you live? Saying “top tier” as you’ve seen, is meaningless w/o any context.
