How is my university justified in reducing my financial aid by $2,300?

Okay, I’m back. I would like to clarify some things.

@Niquii77:

It will cost $14,830 each year. Here’s the breakdown:
____ Tuition: $6,330
____ Room: $4,400
____ Board: $3,100
____ Books: $1,000
(Besides these costs, there is also laundry, miscellaneous fees such as the athletic fee, and the purchase of personal hygiene products, and the purchase of snacks being 165 meals per semester may not be enough food, etc.)

I am receiving the Academic Scholars award via Bright Futures, which is $103 per credit hour. I also am receiving the USF Directors Award. I earned the $2,250 outside scholarship for my performance in my high school’s major (communications). The dean of each major at my school nominated one student to represent their department. I was on my school’s newsmagazine and yearbook staffs for three years and held multiple editor positions.

Those three awards add up to $9,090 for the 2013-2014 school year. USF originally had $4,000 in grants on my account, but $2.3K of those were taken away or reduced because of the outside scholarship. This frustrated me because with the grants and me working a part-time job, I would not have to take out loans. It turns out that the $2.3K reduction should have been taken out of loans. So, I am currently in the process of getting that straightened out with the FA office.

You and I are similar in many ways. We both are good students, as we earned the same USF scholarship. I have taken so many AP classes and CLEP exams that I only have 22 classes to take in order to graduate with a bachelor’s. And we both are knowledgeable about finances. I have already began establishing credit for myself, for example, and educated myself about taking advantage of 401k and IRA options as soon as I am out of college. I am glad that your mom has been able to help you, as well as Susie Orman. Does she have a radio show or something? I haven’t heard of her before.

Thank you for your comments, you made some good suggestions. I will look into who this Susie Orman is, too!
