I am deciding among WashU, NYU stern, UVa, and Emory, I am intending to major in economics. Though Olin is not ranked as high as the rest, I am kind of leaning towards WashU because I think WashU is more suitable for my undergrad experience. However, I still like to know more about Olin. =) (if possible, in comparison to the other schs i mentioned)

Hi,

Economics at Washu is administered through Artsci, not Olin. But the Artsci econ program is top notch. They just built an awesome new Econ building and hired a bunch (10-15) of some of the best econ professors in the country (rumor had their salaries at $500,000 each). I recently graduated with an econ degree and it was a great experience all around. You can’t go wrong with Washu.

As an econ major you CAN take business classes at Olin, very easily actually. I took some finance classes there and they were amazing. Olin is top notch. I can’t imagine it is ranked below those schools you mentioned (though I’ll take your word for it).

Oh, and we have an econ nobel laureate too, Doug North.
