How is online multiplayer like now?

So I never really played any multiplayer games since Age of Empires II. Yeah; I was that old. But I just read a review of a multiplayer game - and saw - do people yell in microphones that everyone can hear in multiplayer games now? How have they changed? Are there any video games that actually have real wars? As in, wars when people act as individual combatants and fight 50 humans vs 50 humans in otherwise FPS style combat? [Counterstrike has very small teams comparatively]

i love counterstrike ...but i aint spending 50 bucks on it...

Go out and get an xbox 360 and an xbox live gaming account. Some great online games are Gears of war, Rainbow 6, nba 2k7, madden, etc.

I loved Age of Empires II... These days MMORPGs like WOW is fun. Try playing Battlefield 2142(if your computer can properly run it...)

counterstrike is only 30 dollars....

cs is no MMORPG...MMORPGs should be something like Lineage2 or World of Warcraft

Lineage2 is a great game (thought I only play unofficial servers <-- free)

lol seriously buy the whole source packet guitars...

America's Army and Day of Defeat Source is the bestest :D

AoE II isn't an MMORPG either. But anyways I used to play Rise of Nations online (sort of like AoE) but now I play Call of Duty 3 usually.

starcraft still remains the best strategy/multip game. mmorpg best-guild wars, however if looking for free ones try silk road, etc.
edit: go on google and search mmorpg and a forum pops up w/ all the top mmorpg listed

What is best is subjective and opinionated. By numbers, the best MMORPG would be World of Warcraft; RTS, Warcraft III; FPS, Call of Duty 2 or Counterstrike (most likely the latter).

MGS3 Susbsistence still owns.
