How is South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s Computer Science Program?

Hi,

I am 21 years old, I’ve started narrowing down my colleges & I really like the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology based on its affordability and high placement rate of 95%.

I was wondering how good the computer science program is and if it’s just as good as their engineering programs, or if South Dakota State is a better CS School.

There isn’t normally much to distinguish undergraduate CS programs. You could look through the list of classes required and offered, and see if one school offers a more interesting selection of classes.

I’m not that familiar with either of the schools mentioned, but I looked at their CS programs, and they seem pretty similar.

If you like the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, it’s fine to go there.

Looking at their program, did SDSMT seem like a strong CS school?

I appreciate the response by the way! Helpful to know that the strength of CS is more or less the same across the board.

I am not familiar with CS, but I know about the college generally and the traditional engineering programs. Mines overall is excellent. You would be surprised by the caliber of employers that attended SDSMT career fairs. As regards CS, there is one professor who is renown on campus for his methodology for predicting NFL odds. He’s a tremendous Denver Broncos fan.

I wouldn’t call it “strong”. It’s adequate, however. You’ll be able to get a job.
