Check it out..

My son graduated from Stony Brook this spring. He did not major in Science, but in History and Political Science. He absolutely loved the place. The school is very well run. (His sister is at an ivy now-I only wish it were half as well managed as Stony Brook.) He feels he had a great time and received an excellent education. For all you careerists out there-he had a paid internship his last semester and now has a well paying job with a multi-national. Consider Stony Brook-it is a school on the rise.

Thanks for the thumbs up, CoolMom!

My S will graduate this spring. Overall, he has had a good experience. Except for maybe two professors, all the others have been great. One in particular, who teaches Constituitional Law is phenomenal. My son ended up taking another one of his classes because he enjoyed his lectures so much. My son is in the Business School which does not have as many students as the science programs do so he has enjoyed smaller classes. He has forged relationships with some of his professors in the program and I hope it helps him come graduation time and looking for employment.

The professors are great over all, of course there are always some that are hard and some that are easy. It depends on your major. It never hurts to check out their ratings in ratemyprofessors.com. I mean if you really want to keep your gpa up, consider which professor to take. Professors gets evaluated by you toward the end of the semester, and you can always write up your comments and feedback for him/her to make the class better in the future. The environment is good, you should come up for a visit. You can never get lost on campus since there's always people around. Even if you don't see any security guards or faculties, one of us students would be glad to help. On the weekends it's pretty quiet because many people either go home or the commuters are not around. There is Honors program for this school, but you'll have to apply for it on the application. You can also apply the Learner's Program (I think that's what it's called), which gives you a small classroom environment for those of you who are not ready to adapt the big lecture halls yet. (600 people seats over at Javits Lecture Center).
