On a scale from 1-10 how good is the food on campus? Also is it buffet style?

the food on campus ranges from 4 to 10. if you’re talking about just dorm food though, 4, and yes it is buffet style. most things are fried and it gets really old really fast.

food on campus is really good for the first couple of weeks… but people usually get sick of the food in a long term.

Everyone complains about the dorm food. Im not a picky eater so I really don’t care but based on observation:

The food choices rarely change. It’s either burgers, pasta, Asian food or taco’s.

I heard it was worse though and it is said that UCR hired 4 Las Vegas buffet chefs (but I dont have a legitimate source).

Periodically, the food will be BOMB. On special days they will serve ribs or their desert section would be filled with a variety of Ohmygoodness. :)

It’s not actually as bad as people make it sound. I would give it maybe a 7.

I may eat some cafeteria food, but Im not going to meal plan it.
I’m doing an on campus apartment( had to apply in April ) and I’m not doing the meal plan .
I used some basic algebra and figured out the meals were around 10$ each ( you do NOT get a price break for a more expensive plan, the meals stay at 10$ each) , the kicker is if you don’t use all your meals in a week you lose them . So lets say im extra busy, I get tired of campus food after the 3rd week, what ever and I only use 6 of 7 meals per-week . Guess what, I’m losing 40$ a month .

How far is the campus from good off campus food( I mean cheap) . Can I walk to a place with 5$ burritos ? I normally spend a max of 15$ a day on food, even without cooking it doesn’t make sense to spend 30$ a day on food.

Thisislife, there are a variety of restaurants at the University Village plaza where you can get cheap food.

Thanks DarkPrince .
I’m insanely excited to about going to UCR this summer .
I’m just a little afraid I’ll lose all my frugle habbits once i get there

thisislife - you must be getting your information from a third or a fourth year, because that was how the meal plan worked way back when. this year, and i believe last year as well, the system changed so you have 75, 100, or 150 meals per quarter, rather than a certain amount per week. also, if you arent going to live in the dorms, chances are you will almost never eat dorm food. it’s inconvenient and expensive compared to off campus food. walking to the UV to buy food will be easier than walking to the dorms. also, you might as well cook if you’re gonna live in an apartment. stater bros and food4less are close enough. and i actually dont know of any burrito places around campus, except for el sol in the HUB, which is terrible, but there’s cheap enough food in the UV.

thanks 8equals
I still don’t plan on buying into a meal plan, for one since you have to pay the whole amount at once( costly ) . Plus Im too independent minded to have a meal plan

If you compare the costs between the university’s meal plan and the cost of eating out at fast food restaurants or preparing your own meals, then you will realize the former is exorbitantly more expensive.

is there any pho places near the campus??

I have yet to eat pho … I should try it

There is a pho restaurant at the University Village plaza, it is about 10-15 mins from campus.

oh man, the pho restaurant at the University Village plaza is really reall good… i’m craving for it right now

and pho saigon is nearby as well. =]
