Has anyone stayed at the Colgate Inn? Is it OK? Some of the reviews on Trip Advisor weren't very complimentary -- uncomfortable beds and slow internet service. Any comments or suggestions for other places to stay? Thanks in advance!

Burb parent, the Colgate Inn is lovely and quaint, and is as close to campus as you can get. It is owned by Colgate University. When we visited 3 years ago, 3 of us staying in one room was WAAAY oo much. The rooms are tiny, but have a certain "old house" feel and the Inn has a great restaurant. We try to stay at the Wendt University Inn--it is a modern Motel 6 ish motel that has reasonable prices and is the second-closest to campus. It is about 4 (?) long blocks from the Wendt to the main intersection of town--which is where the bookstore and Colgate Inn are located. It does not have particular charm, but is convenient, clean and FINE. Both of these really fill up during move-in, parents weekend and graduation (in fact graduations for the next 2 years are already booked). Beyond these two places, you have to generally drive a LONG way--1/2 hour or more to other hotel/motels, so if convenience is your primary motivation, stay at either the Colgate Inn or the Wendt.

Thanks. I made a booking at the Colgate Inn for the college visit. I didn't realize it is owned by Colgate. I got a good rate because winter is off-season. If we ever revisit, I'll look into The Wendt Univresity Inn.

There are some nice b and b's in town that are fabulous. We have stayed at the Colgate Inn (like that but it's very small and expensive for what it is), Wendt Inn (to me a Best Western type) but for what's its worth, we'll go for the b&b's from now on. Bed Book and candle is in Madison, Home Suite Home is in town and we've stayed at both of those.

In addition to the Colgate Inn, there's the Hamilton Inn just 5 minutes outside of town - the food there is amazing. There's also the Brae Loch Inn (with comfy beds, apparently) and the Brewster Inn in Cazenovia, both also have great food.

Thanks. We are on college tour, so I guess we'll stay at the Colgate Inn because it is right next to the campus. My son will have an idea of what is available or unavailable in the town, walking distance from college.

I'll look into the others if we come back. Home Suite Home sounded interesting, so I looked into it. Unfortunately, they don't have internet access, which is a deal breaker for son. I can survive a night without cc!

I agree, Brae Loch and Brewster are excellent...for anyone else, Turning Stone in Oneida (40 mins away) has several hotels on property and many amenities--a far cry from quaint Hamilton, but just as good.

I stayed at the Colgate Inn and it was so nice and cozy.. not to mention close to campus! I would definetely say its a great place to stay.
