How is the engineering department at McGill University?

I got in McGill for the ECE and Mech E programs.

I didn't apply to UfT.

I was wondering if I should go to McGill, and if their engineering program is top notch or not. As far as i have heard, their engineering program is not really that good. But that was from Canadian forums where "fanboys' (a term they used) of different colleges post.

I could take a gap year and apply next year to Uft. I would probably get in with my grades...

But is the McGill Engineering dept. good enough for me to disregard the opportunities I will miss at US colleges/uft if I applied next year?

Bumpity Bump.

I keep bumping this, but I get no response. :(

Mcgill engineering is good. I wouldnt consider transferring from mcgill to uoft either its not worth it. If i were you i would worry more about location and if you like the school etc.

You get no response because most of us have no real experience with Canadian universities. I have to say that I have heard nothing but good things about McGill, but I have no first- or second-hand experience of any kind with them. That is solely by word of mouth.

Ok thanks. I’ve also heard only good things about McGill, which is one of the things that worry me because usually the things that apparently have no flaws end up having a lot of them.

But one thing that bothered me was the low Engineering ranking of McGill. Should I be concerned about that? As the student residence is quite expensive, the total cost of attending would be a little too high, even with my scholarship (I did not yet get the reply for my request for need-based aid). So I want to be absolutely convinced that the financial burden is worth it.

Again, what I have said already is about all I know about McGill. Beyond the good reputation, I don’t really know much. The only rankings I am really familiar with are the ones that rank US colleges/universities. I will say, however, that rankings are generally not the end all, be all of program quality. They are usually decent, but still flawed.
