any idea ......

The freshmen and sophomores live in residential colleges, some of which are nice, and some of which are extraordinarily nice. Especially since Butler will eventually be demolished/refurbished (not sure which), and will be replaced (at least for a time) by the currently in-progress Whitman dorm (donated by CEO of ebay), the living conditions for freshmen are at a very high standard. Although I heard some bad things about the beautiful old gothic dorms' condition, those have recently been renovated and are a very nice place to live, from what i hear. The 2-year residential college system fosters an intimate environment because each one offers separate facilities for its students (a small library for casual use, a dining hall, etc). Each college also sponsors frequent subsidized trips into NYC for Broadway plays, along with other activities. However, staying in the same place with the same people for four years would get old, so Princeton's residential colleges only last for 2 years (although whitman and one other will soon also be 4-year colleges to give students an option), and after 2 years students live on-campus in upperclass housing. More information for each residential college can be found here. http://www.princeton.edu/main/campuslife/housingdining/colleges/

how big are these dorm rooms and how many people share a room? are they centrally heated and air conditioned? are rooms with private baths? what about laundary facilities? do they come with small regrigerator and microwave? do they have sinks in the room?

The rooms vary wildly. All are centrally heated. Those in recently renovated buildings- i think? are air conditioned. The main inn at forbes is air conditioned, as is bloomberg which is where a lot of butler freshman will live next year. room sizes range from 1-11 people, with wilson college having the biggest suites. rocky is mainly quads and singles, with the brand new holder hall next year. Mathey i think is mostly quads as well. Forbes is mostly doubles and Butler, with bloomberg, i think is mainly singles.

many of the suites have private bathrooms. all of the rooms in the main inn of forbes have private bathrooms. The only downside is that you have to clean them yourselves. Rooms also vary wildly in size. I currently live in a an about 600 square foot quad in wilson, which is very large by college standards. we have enough room to unbunk our beds as well as have a common room with a couch and stuff. we also have our own bathroom. On the flip side of that, there are some quads that used to be triples, especially in witherspon. Basically, its completely the luck of the draw
