Does anyone have any information about the government department at Colby College. I was accepted into Colby College, and I am very interested in government and politics. I am trying to choose a college, and I would be extremely grateful if anyone had some information on this subject. I would really appreciate it.

The government department at Colby has been acclaimed as one of the best in the nation (I saw a "top 10" ranking once for undergraduate gov studies... but I'm not sure how legit that could have been). Our gov. profs are among the best in the world-- many Harvard Kennedy School grads and very involved with and outspoken in current politics. I believe the Colby homepage is even acclaiming one of our gov profs for his recent work. NPR often calls up our gov professors for comments, leads, and information on certain topics. They are eager to learn your get to know you and are more than happy to spend their after hours helping, advising, and even just chatting. I hear that gov majors at Colby gain great connections through our professors and alums and enter the "real world" and graduate school with great experience and ample perparation.

However, while Colby's government program is highly acclaimed, and, as I'm told by my gov. major peers (one of whom is the SGA Pres.), is well worth it, its students have the second lowest GPA average of all the majors, second only to econ,or so I hear-- though, that doesn't say a whole lot as our school's GPA average is about 3.3-3.35.

Anyhue, that's what I can say off the top of my head about Colby's gov program. If you have any specific questions, I might be able to address those directly... I used to be a gov major, but, though I absolutely LOVE the department, it just wasn't right for me. I was double majoring in Bio and Gov for a while, but decided I wanted to concentrate in Bio instead (Bio:ES and a Chem minor).

cheers! =)
