I got into Harpur as a transfer, and as a biology major.

I was wondering how rigorous and prestigious Binghamton's Harpur college/Science programs are.. esp. compared to Stony Brook's.

Does anybody know? Please enlighten me. =) Thanks.

Science = Stony Brook, from what I’ve heard.

how hard is it to get good grades in harpur?
i realize this sounds ridiculous and please don’t bash me for the question but I am someone who does get super discouraged when I get below an A on something I truly worked for… it is really would affect my happiness if I went to a school and worked my butt off but couldn’t get an A. typically in high school i can get a B without incredible effort but when I put in the time… i need that A. otherwise i get super discouraged.

I know someone there now who is fufilling all premed reqs. and is having a horrible time pulling off a B despite constant studying and whatnot.

Im taking political science and history, so how is it in terms of those majors?

The grades are not super hard. It really depends on the class you are taking, the professor you have and the TA you have. The TA could be a tough grader or an easy grader so it is really up to luck. Luckily though, TA’s and Professors are very open to discuss grades with you and are generally very helpful if you need to talk to them. I am a junior here and I have a GPA of a 3.6 or so. I am a double major in psychology and art. For me the art classes are easy classes and the psych is harder so I try to balance out my schedule so the work is not unbearable. I know a lot of people who do have a 3.8 or 4.0 GPA. Definately check ratemyprofessors.com to find out about who is teaching the class or try to find some upperclassman who has taken it already. They are usually good about telling you which classes are easier than others and which professors to have and not have.
