hi i am a high school graduated student who want to enroll in community college, just one question wanna ask , how is the learning environment atmosphere in community college. if i happen to be the top 1 in the class, will i feel like being drag down from the top by the other?
is going to four years college always better than going to CC?

Many community colleges are a wonderful place to go and save some money ,then transfer to a 4 year school.

True what fauxmaven said: however, know that community colleges serve a wide variety of students – many who are building themselves up from less than stellar HS careers, to workers looking to complete degrees or get more qualified. The quality varies greatly. Years ago, I took a simple Psych class as a pre-req for a graduate program I was considering. Starting day, there were about 30+ enrollees. Halfway through, there was about 12. Come the end of the class, there was maybe six of us. The population served by community colleges is extremely diverse.

To answer your question about “learning environment”, my opinion is this: you engage the teacher and the coursework – don’t wait for any scintillating comments from your classmates. You may find your HS honors or AP classes to have more of a serious atmosphere than your community college classes – esp. the general ones.

It can be hit or miss, depending on your school and depending on the class. I once took a statistics class that didn’t have a textbook. It was basically a book that was printed out on individual pages that you had to put in your own binder! But then I took a biology class and was impressed at the ambition of the class. On the first day, the professor asked the class what their ambitions are, and I was surprised to hear many pre-med and graduate research answers.

Sometimes you can be dragged down by your peers. It’s nice to help others, but be wary of students that just don’t do homework and constantly ask you for help for every thing.

I went to a university after high school. I was top 10% of my class and graduated with 13 college credits. I stopped going, joined the military, and now I am back in school at a c.c going to transfer to a UC next year. Honestly, if I would do it all over again, I would just go to a good community college. It gives you a chance to get your general ed’s out of the way cheaper and not having to worry about sitting in a lecture hall with over 300 students.
