im thinking of applying for accounting at management school in ga tech.
can someone give me any insights?
since its a tech school, i wonder how good of a business school it has.
thank you.

Georgia Tech has a very strong, but not elite school of management. Accounting is also not a major focus of the school. UGA’s accounting program is higher ranked. Of course, Georgia Tech as a school is higher ranked and its MBA program is higher ranked(currently tied with Emory). However, I question the use of rankings to decide how good an undergraduate program is, but if that is your main concern…

What the School says:

Note that this abundance of information is available to anyone typing in ‘Georgia Tech College of Management’ into Google… If you have more specific questions, you will probably get better answers, but asking general and broad questions (that could easily be answered by a little research on your part) may not illicit very useful responses.

I had planned on doing an accounting certificate, but while I still like accounting, I realized I like finance more, and so I devoted myself to that area. I’ve taken enough accounting classes to answer your question, though.

The accounting department at our College of Management (CoM) is excellent. Not only does the faculty research extensively and thus know what they’re talking about, but they also know how to explain the stuff they talk about. Moreover, because professors in business schools generally do not have to write grants 24/7, you’ll find that the professors in the CoM are very approachable. They do not disappear immediately after class; they are happy to answer your questions. Indeed, they encourage your asking questions, provided they’re smart questions, of course :)

Several of my friends have been successful in obtaining internships and jobs with major accounting firms, including the Big 4 and Grant Thornton. Many firms recruit pretty heavily at the CoM, especially when you consider that it is not a very large school in terms of undergraduates.

If you have more specific questions, please feel free to ask.
