How is the math department at Oberlin
How is the prestige? Are there many students going to top schools after graduation?

My reports indicate that the department is excellent.

Be forewarned, upper level courses can be pretty tough. Possibly that's just the nature of the material.

Thanks monydad

And anybody has more information?

I visited Oberlin and sat in on a class taught by Prof. Michael Henle:

B.A., Swarthmore College, 1965
M.A., Yale University, 1967
M.Phil., Yale University 1969
Ph.D., Yale University, 1970

He was awesome! (I am a math geek)
You could call up the department and ask about grad school placement.

My son is a sophmore at Oberlin. He is a biology major. However, he started taking math classes and has enjoyed them so much that he has decided to do a second major in math as well. He says the teachers he has had so far have been excellent. He hasn't looked into grad placement or anything, though, so I can't give you any data, just one person's personal experience.

I know a lot of people taking math, and they all love it. I'll be taking it a lot, but haven't started yet. Yay Comp Sci majors.

My sister's ex boyfriend got a math major there, with a physics minor I think. He got into a Masters physics program at Cambridge working down the hall from Stephen Hawking for a year, then to Berkeley for a Ph.D. in math. If you do well there, you can go where ever you want.

Maths department according to my small experience is cooool..(m taking two maths courses this sem..both r good..)...but ve heard nasty things about a professor in multivariable...so if u avoid him...the rest is great...professors r always (yes always!) willing to help....individual tutoring is also available (easily i think..) and the book is good too..what more could you ask for!
