I am considering major in math so I.really want to know more about the math department in Duke. What about the teachers? Is there lots of pressure? Is it really hard to study in Duke? Thanks!
It is actually very good. Duke recently managed to recruit one of the world’s preeminent female mathematicians away from Princeton (which is arguably the best school in the world for math).
The department isn’t very large and I don’t think the curriculum is too stressful. Having said that, it will not be a breeze because math at Duke is challenging.
@NerdyChica A friend of mine (a fellow '19) is interested in Statistical Science (not Math) and Economics. Which department is generally regarded as more rigorous? (I understand that Economics is much much larger a department, hence more competition/harsher curves, but Stats as a subject is more theoretical and “harder”.) Your thought?
@MBVLoveless I think stats is probably slightly more difficult but I’d argue that a stats degree is much more versatile. Perhaps your friend should consider a major in stats with a minor in finance.
