What did you first notice about the environment NYU resides in? Is it in a safe area of New York? Could you tell me your experience as a college student, regarding the off campus environment of New York University, the students and NYC as a whole? Therefore, do go into details.

Which New York University Residence Hall has the best dorm rooms and is situated in a more preferred area of New York City? Thank you for the help!

I believe that NYU is the safest police precinct in the whole city (and it’s right near the main police bureau). Nowadays, most of Manhattan is pretty safe as well - New York is now the safest large city in the country.

NYU is located in one of the best and higher priced neighborhoods of New York City. Aside from the very posh and wealthy areas of Park Ave., 5th Ave., Central Park West, the Greenwich village area (where NYU is located) has some of the more high demand and expensive real estate in the city.

It will be hard for you to live in the area after graduation unless you make big bucks or go into finance, investment banking, etc. Or unless you are ready to share and split up costs with multiple roommates for an apartment rental in the area.

There are many great eating places, as well as shopping galore, though these may not be cheap (however, there is a range). NYU students are truly fortunate to be in such a prime location. (Really a better location than Columbia University which is further uptown.) Enjoy NYU living while you can. I know I cannot afford anything but perhaps a small studio with probably high maintenance in the NYU neighborhood. So I will enjoy it vicariously through my son, who, by the way, got a high floor in Founders (so he will have relatively quiet unit with a VIEW). Normally you pay more for being on a high floor in buying or renting an apartment in the city.

The area around NYU is very safe. I often walk home from Bobst at 2am with what is obviously a laptop and have never had a problem.

It’s a very safe neighborhood. Just from visiting, I definitely felt safe. There are tons of NYU Security Guards at all of the buildings, and Greenwich Village is a very safe place to be at.

On the tour, our guide told us that NYU is statistically in the safest area of New York-in the 6th Precinct.
