How good is the premed program in SCU? Is there any statistic data about the medical school applicants for SCU students? How many applied to medical school and how many got accepted?

According to this set of data from 2005, 100% of ‘qualified’ students (“3.5+ GPA, 30+ MCAT, and solid extracurriculars”) were admitted to at least one program.

Kind of old, but they keep stuff like that close to the chest. I’m doing a little searching because I know somewhere I had really nice charts off the SCU website. Stand by.

allemanau: I got into SCU with the honors program. Could you please provide some information about honors program, such as professors, research etc? Any grade curve?

I heard the same statement in a student panel session when visiting SCU in 2008

Yeah, I’d pretty much take it at face value.

That I could. SCU has the distinct advantage when it comes to undergraduate research because there aren’t tons of other students competing for spots, and all the courses are taught by professors. The honors classes are limited to Arts and Sciences, at least thus far, so courses cover introductory chemistry, English, religion, etc, as well as some very interesting discussion sections (one of which I am taking right now, with emphasis on sexuality in antiquity).

I will also say this: SCU has the distinct advantage of having two powerhouse schools nearby, Cal and Stanford. A lot of the teachers, especially those who teach honors courses, are farmed from these and other big name institutions. It is clear that not only do they have a passion for the material they teach, but also vest an interest in the students’ understanding.

How is the grading at scu? What is usually the average grade students get in their classes.

PS: I know that grades vary from class to class, and professor to professor, but usually what is the average grade?

thanks

thanks

party…I can only tell you what my daughter has told me. She feels the grading is done fairly…but she does work for her grades. As an engineering/biology double degree student, she will graduate with a 3.2 GPA and worked diligently to get that GPA. She says the grading is not inflated or deflated…but is really reflective of the work the students do, and the type of instruction offered. If you’re looking for a school with “easy A’s” without the work needed to get A’s, she say SCU is not the school for you.
