how is the residential life in binghamton??

hi
i've been accepted to binghamton for fall 08 and the bad part is that i've never visited the campus. I really will like to live in a place where i will fell confortable and like.
last saturday i visited albany, where i also got accepted and i was terribly dissapointed. i didn't like the dorms at all!!! they were all suites of 3 or 2 bedrooms and for me that's too many people.

I've always wanted a "normal" dorm that i could share with one roomate nothing of suites or anything like that. i also like the idea of community bathrooms located at the end of the halls. Also a place that is chemical or drug free. As you can see i'm looking for the traditional college housing style.

i've heard that in binghamton there are several communitiies. which community do you recommend me to be in as a freshman????
how are the communities assigned???

Binghamton is the opposite of Albany; different living communities, each having their own living arrangements (with lots of options....) If possible, you should really visit...you'll be pleasantly surprised at the differences.....

Newing is very traditional in terms of what you are looking for and is primarily freshman, but there are also new dorms that I am not familiar with....

college-in-the-woods has both suite style and traditional rooms on the same floor...the corners are suites, the rooms on the halls....great set-up IMO.....

Hinman: all suites I think.....

Chemical/drug-free...No idea....the drinking age was 18 when I attended.......

I haven't heard CIW referred to as College In the Woods in a long time. Wow.

perfected: Now you're making me feel realllllly old (even though I know I am!!!!)

thanks that was reallly helpful!!!!
i will really like to visit bing, but i'm in hs so i have classes from monday to friday. and i dont have anyone to take me there. do you kno if the university is opened to visitors during spring break??? i live in nyc what transportation can i take to get there??

I visited Bing over the February break, and did so by taking a Greyhound Bus from Port Authority.

They don't have an Amtrak station up there, so Greyhound is what I'd recommend.

rebecali - I would look into tours given on particular days on the website.
And as far as transportation, I know greyhound or usa coach have stops near Binghamton. =)

I think I'm going to attend Binghamton..Does anyone know what I can do if I bring a car?

I am not positive, but I don't believe that they allow students to bring cars during their first year.

You can take Shortline from Penn Station up to Binghamton. But the bus station is in downtown Binghamton. You might need to call a cab to get to the university. It's about a 10 minute drive to the campus. If you know anyone that goes up there you can call them up so they can arrange a cab to go pick you up or pick you up themselves.

You should also call Binghamton to see if they offer tours on the day you want to go up. If you're a senior then just take a day off, you deserve it anyway haha. It's already 2nd semester. Anyway good luck :)
