How is the university?

you can always take out student loans. even if you had to pay for your entire college tuition, that would still amount to around $30,000

Another question about the school:
What is it like going there with 50,000 students? Is it constantly crowded and are the classes oversized? Thanks again!

has anyone gone on the campus tour? anything special?

If you can't stand heat than Texas can be pretty miserable. There Summers are blowtorch city with many days over 100 degrees. This past week Dallas had a day where it hit 101 and two days where it hit 99. Someone said that they think that temps in the 50s are cold? Wow!

Haha when I was there last week it was 100 on Monday. It was definitely hot, but it is dry heat, so it isn't as bad as some other places where it is humid. Luckily we aren't in school from June-most of August, so we miss the worst of the heat.

I get cold in 50 degree weather... :(

you certainly wouldn't like Chicago weather!

I grew up in Austin, but I'm still waiting to see if I get into UT. Here is my list of good things about my city.

-Voted number one city to live in.
-High future job growth rate.
-A city within a park (The greenbelt is a great place to go hiking.)
-Nice people for the most part.
-Good food (Guerros, Magnolia Cafe, Kerby lane Cafe to name a few.)
-Pretty lakes and streams to swim in (Barton creek, Stacy pool, Lake travis)
-6th street to go bar hopping or clubbing or see live music any day of the week.
-The Austin City Limits Music fest (tons of bands play here each year.)
-Austin is more liberal than the entire state of TX, if that matters to you.

To compare Austin to Houston:
-Less traffic in Austin.
-Less pollution.
-Cleaner
-Nicer people
-Better drivers! :)

We have Spring in Texas? Lol, I must have missed it all these years.

I'll tell you what Spring has been like this year. Super cold, then in the 70's but rainy, then cold again, then HOT. We're living in the upper 90's in Houston now, and it's only April.

I perosnally would rather deal with the humidity and heat than ice and snow, but that's just me!

So... how's the weather?

Most of the year it is warm. It hardly ever snows here, but sometimes gets icey between jan-feb. During August it gets scorching hot, a little over 100.

It gets hot, but it only bothers me when I get into my car. OH MAN! The black car/black leather does not help either. Other than that, it ain't bad honestly. And Austin? Hell, it's awesome. I love it. Great natural beauty, very liberal, and just a fun place. Hopefully I can transfer to UT Austin from UT Arlington (where I'll be attending for fall '06).

I know most people don't have a clue, but how is the roller hockey team? Also, is the school very difficult? I'm just worried I'm to get there and the difficulty is going to kill me!

I've heard UT is tough but it varies widely by major and how prepared you are for college classes.

How hard is it truly to get into the university? I've heard a lot about these CAP programs, but why were they not accepted?

Patricia, it depends greatly on your class rank and if you are not top 10%, your test scores. I have heard that this year was a blood bath at our local high school and that many who I thought would get in are now going to A&M, which for some reason hasn't gotten as tough (yet). CAP is a way for kids to earn their way into UT Austin by going to the satellite schools and getting the required GPA after a year of attendence.

I am ranked in the top 4% of my class and VERY involved with everything as far as EC's and such, so from what I am reading I should not have an issue getting in but I have a low ACT score. I have a 24 so I think that may hold me back some. I am a little worried about the fact that UT is so big. I don't want to be just a number and not be able to know my professors or make the grades to get into med school. Are the undergraduate classes extremely difficult?
