Hi I’ve been thinking about my Common App essay and I think I want to writing about writing. I’ve always loved stories since I was really young and when I was about 11 or 12 I started writing stories outside of school. I thought maybe since my ECs are kind of all over the place and I’m currently at a tech high school in an academic track different from what I want to study in college, this would show a more consistent part of me. I figured I could write about how I got into writing, how it’s been a vital method of managing my stress throughout high school, and how being a part of the NaNoWriMo and fanfiction communities has affected me. Also, should I avoid mentioning fanfiction? I mean, I’m sure I could talk about it in a positive light and I feel like it’s important because posting my work online is something that has helped me to be able to come out of my comfort zone (I used to be extremely self-conscious of my writing, and I still am in part, but less so), but will talking about fanfiction be a turn off?
My other idea was to write about working at a special needs camp and how that’s affected me and my career goals but I feel like it’s kind of cheesy and would be a bit forced.
