I really like the school and was thinking of even applying as ED2. The school is really attractive and I like the idea of living in Boston. However, would it be rather dumb for me to choose Tufts over highly ranked engineering schools that I've already been accepted to such as University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Georgia institute of technology?

Cost doesn't really matter much, but I was wondering if school rank/prestige matters more than program rank/prestige. Obviously, Tufts is a great school, ranked higher than the other two I mentioned, but it's known for its international relations and pre-med, whereas I want to pursue engineering.

Actually, out of state public schools end up being quite expensive (I also got into UMichigan) and they don’t offer much financial aid. Whereas, I’m expecting/hoping significant financial aid from Tufts (<65k income). This is all however, just hunches nothing accurate or finalized.

All are great schools but quite different obviously. There is a thread somewhere under Tufts about its engineering school you might try searching for. If I remember correctly, Tufts engineering has a different focus than the big state engineering schools.

My best recommendation would be to go to the school (at least among the schools you mentioned) with the least expensive bottom line after aid.

The Engineering school is good. The focus is more on using engineering to have an impact on the world/change the world–that can via a business, a non-profit, being a leader, being innovative, etc. That’s my take from it. I always thought this was a useful way to go with engineering because you work on projects and learn things that have real world impacts/are impressive.
