How is UIUC's business program in terms of recruiting?

Hey CC,

I'm debating whether or not to transfer to UIUC College of Business from GMU (George Mason University). I'm an accounting major and want to know if how is UIUC's business program. From statistics, I know they are top 50 and the school is pretty prestigious.

For those that are at UIUC, how many companies recruit there and how many students get accepted for internship/jobs from the Big 4 and other companies.

Any more information about their business program would be great!

Lets turn this around. What research have you done, other than post on CC regarding the COB? A simple chek of the COB website will tell you much more than a blog post can.

Research - Something needed in College. Do it yourself first, then ask if you can’t find anything.

agreed with the above. but just to not sound as harsh… know that the big 4 LOVE uiuc. i dont say that lightly. they recruit here so hard. they hire tons of our grads, mostly to work in chicago, sometimes st louis if you want. our accy program is the best in the state and possibly the midwest, and they know it. tons of on campus recruiting events sponsored by them all the time. i am a freshman and i am on a first name basis with the head recruiter from E&Y, and I have met the head recruiters from the other three multiple times. most even semi-successful upperclassmen in accy that i know are very well connected.

this also causes heavy recruitment from midsize firms like grant thornton and crowe horwath. you’ll see lots of small firms at career fair as well.

Ah I should have worded my post better. I did do research on UIUC, after all why would i want to apply there if I didn’t know about the school, and did find lots of accounting firms (big 4, lesser firms) recruit there.

What I wanted to know is how is their program in POV of a student. Yes I know UIUC has great business programs, but I want to know the workload and what grades you can expect to get. Are the classes very time-consuming?

I know at smaller schools, a 3.8-3.9 is necessary for Big 4; does anyone know the average of acceptance Big 4 student’s GPA and do a lot of students to get a job at the Big 4 or Grant Thornton?

I just want students who are doing the business program to help me out :)

@jax90291 Thanks for the info, good to know that lots of firms hire at UIUC!
Mind if I PC you some specific questions that I might have about the business program in the future?

My sister is at Deloitte and she graduated last year with a 3.6 GPA in accy. You are at the right place if you want to end up at one of the Big 4.

Big 4 is definitely my dream or even a lesser company like Grant would be amazing.
I’m transferring as a sophomore so I would have most of my gen edu classes done so I can’t “inflate” my grade and would be taking mostly business classes.

–How is the difficulty level of the accounting courses there? Would it be reasonable to be able to get an A (assuming you study, go to Office hours, etc).

–How are the professors? Are they helpful and kind during office hours?

thanks
