How is University of Dayton for MS in Materials Engineering?

I have been accepted to this program for Spring 2015 session.
Considering research opportunities and funding for masters students as the most important factors, how is the Materials Engineering program for international student? I have heard it is very difficult for international students to do internships at the labs they share with US defence agencies.
If I don’t get any scholarship or assistantship, how easy is it to get part time job.
Kindly also comment on the city Dayton. How is life here for international student?
Thanks.

Anyone who attended UDayton (any graduate program), kindly give some comments please. I really need to make up my mind. Thanks.

I am admitted for Fall 2015 session not for Spring session as mentioned in the first comment. Sorry for the mistake.

I know they have a good engineering dept and work closely with the Air Force Research Laboratories but I know nothing about their materials.

Thank you replying Erin’s Dad. I know they have a good materials engg program but I am concerned about research opportunities for international students. Most of the employers in the region are defence related which do not hire international students for jobs or even internships. The only option seems to the University of Dayton Research Institute, but positions will obviously be limited and very competitive. Can you comment on this please?

Dayton has a long-standing reputation as being an excellent school for engineering. The research center is amazing and they are constantly building and updating the university. The city of Dayton is average. The bus system is very good if you do not have your own transportation. The area around the university is alive and lots of restaurants when you tire of campus food. I am a proud alum and would highly recommend it to anyone. Students amaze me at how friendly and welcoming they are to any visitors.

Thank you for replying Lammb66. It’s absolutely unbelievable how friendly and welcoming UDayton is! I have talked to some professors and they all seem very nice and helpful. I have also heard nice things about citizens of Dayton.
The problem I have right now is that I can’t get hold of any current or former student from Materials Engg department. I want know more about research and job prospectives with respect to this department. Can anybody help me in this regard please? Thanks.
